Green Arrow in the Funny Papers?

This beaut was submitted to me by SHAFT member and Aquaman blogger Rob Kelly. Rob writes:

"Here's a page from the 1970s Batman newspaper strip, guest-starring Green Arrow. The set-up involves the cops getting into a fight with some campus college rebels, leading to the single most UN-Green Arrow like line in history (see if you can find it!)."

New Stuff Reviewed- Green Arrow #1

Today is the day DC released it's new Green Arrow #1 as part of the "New52". Thew new series written by J.T.Krul, drawn by Dan Jurgens with inks by George Perez (yeah, that's right, GEORGE PEREZ) is - shall we say- a departure from previous incarnations of the Emerald Archer.

The new Green Arrow is still Olliver Queen. But this Olliver Queen is a billionaire industrialist who uses his company's assets to travel the world doing battle with super-powered thugs. Sort of like if Steve Jobs was a globe-trotting vigilante by night (and who says he isn't?).

"Multi-tasking is my specialty"? Not exactly a hot catch phrase.

The costume is still green. He still uses a bow and gadgety arrows.

But other than that, he's a very different Green Arrow. I'm not saying it wasn't a good read, but it felt very 1980's Marvel to me. Also, I'm a little confused: is this supposed to be the same Ollie Queen from the Flashpoint one-shot Green Arrow Industries? Can someone help me out here? That guy felt like they just sort of made Green Arrow into the film version of Iron Man. Which is not dissimilar to this either.

I reserve further judgement until I see more.

Trick Arrow Tuesday #2

The Antler Arrow

Sorry for the weird crop. I had to scan this from one of those Showcase editions. the full text of the ballon on the far left reads: "GOOD GRIEF, LAD! A YOUNGSTER'S RUN INTO THE MOOSE CAGE AT THE ZOO! HE'LL BE TRAMPLED!"

I sincerely love trick arrows, but even i have a hard time imagining that Green Arrow goes around with an Antler Arrow in his quiver all the time-just in case...

Pieces From Another Fan's Arrow Cave...

SuperFan and SHAFT member Russell Burbage has taken my initial request for pictures and scans of G.A.-related merchandise to heart. In the last few days Russell has sent me photos of all kinds of goodies. Since I'd like to save some of it for a rainy day, I've elected to post only a few of them today.

From the 1976 DC Super Heroes Calendar, this fantastic pin-up of Green Lantern and Green Arrow done by original GL/GA artist Neal Adams:

Green Arrow was also popular enough to make the July spread as well:

And if that wasn't enough fantastic Neal Adams Green Arrow for you, Russell also sent in a photo of this slightly mysterious DC Super Heroes ruler:

Yep, right there at the ten-inch mark it's my favorite spokesman again- the disembodied, stock-art head of Green Arrow.

Thanks a bunch, Russell and welcome to SHAFT.

Saturday Morning Cartoons!

Okay, so it's almost Sunday morning at this point. But better late than never. Here's Green Arrow's one and only appearance on Super Friends. Enjoy!

Stuff to Spend Your Green On

This nifty looking drinking glass was spotted by "rob!" Kelly of The Aquaman Shrine who had this to say:

"here's a pic of the (relatively) new GA drinking glass by Toon Tumblers. You can rail about social injustice while getting your drunk on!"

Thanks, rob!

I also received this from BubbaShelby:

"I first picked up Speedy, Green Arrow's teen sidekick, a couple years ago. He was part of the Teen Titans series of figures from the recent cartoon (apparently he made an appearance or two.)

I picked him up with the intent of displaying him with Green Arrow from the Justice League figure series, but only recently, FINALLY, picked up Green Arrow. I found him on sale at Longs for 50% off (as previously noted) - so it all worked out nicely!"

Bubba's complete post can be seen at:

For sending in these nifty pics of Green Arrow merch (and thus saving me the trouble of coming up with something to post) rob! and BubbaShelby have just become the first inductees into S.H.A.F.T. the Super Hero Archer Fan Team. Gentlemen, I will e-mail your certificates once I have the design completed.
